Join us for this hands-on bag-making workshop where you'll learn how to sew your very own Retreat Bag from start to finish. Whether you're new to bag making or looking to sharpen your skills, this project is a great way to gain confidence with zippers, boxed corners, and structured bag techniques.
In this workshop, you’ll learn:
- How to install a zipper with a neat, professional finish
- Tips for working with fusible foam for structure
- How to create boxed corners and add a wire frame
- Assembly techniques for a polished final product
You'll leave class with a finished (or nearly finished) Retreat Bag—and the skills to make many more!
Finished Size: Choose between the Small (8.5" x 5" x 4") or the Large (11" x 6" x 5")
Class Details
Cost: $17.50 per person + materials (see below)
Supply List:
- Exterior Fabric - 1 FQ for small, 1/2 yard for large size
- Lining Fabric - 1/2 yard for small, 3/4 yard for large
- Interfacing (light - medium fusible non-woven such as Pellon Shapeflex SF101) 1 yard for small, 1.5 yards for large
- Dense Fusible Fleece (such as Pellon Thermolam Plus TP971F) 25" x 8" for small, 1/2 yard for Large
- 2 x Internal Wire Frames - Style A for Small, Style B for Large
- Closed End Nylon Zipper - 16" long for Small, 22" long for Large
- Pattern - Included with class
Recommended Tools:
- Participants should bring a sewing machine in good working order
- Standard sewing foot, Zipper Foot, and Walking Foot (optional) for your machine
- Thread to match fabrics
- WashAway Wonder Tape or similar double-sided wash away tape 1/4" wide, or fabric glue
- Water-Soluble Erasable marking pen or chalk pencil
- Quilting ruler
- Rotary cutter
- pins/clips, and general sewing tools.
