What You’ll Learn / Why Take This Class
This workshop is perfect for confident beginners and beyond who are ready to dive into bag-making. Throughout the day, you’ll learn essential techniques that can be applied to many future projects, including:
- How to construct a structured handbag with a professional finish
- Tips for working with bag hardware, including swivel hooks, D-rings, sliders, and magnetic snaps
- Creating and installing both interior and exterior pockets for added function
- Techniques for attaching straps for both handle and crossbody options
- Assembly strategies to help you confidently sew multi-layered projects
Finished Size: 14.25" wide x 8.5" tall x 4" deep (measured at the widest points)
Supply List:
- 1/2 meter of cotton fabric for outside of bag
- 1 Fat Quarter of cotton fabric for outer pocket
- 3/4 meter of cotton fabric for lining and inner pocket
- 1/2 meter cotton fabric for the bag handles, bag strap, snap closure tab, and d-ring tabs.
- 1/2 meter fusible foam interfacting such as Pellon Flex Foam for outside of bag
- 1 yard of fusible interfacing for outer and inner pockets, lining, snap closure tab, bag handles, and bag strap
- Pattern and Hardware Kit (includes one 3/4" flower magnetic snap, two 1" swivel hook and d-ring sets, and one 1" adjustable slider buckle)

- Participants should bring a sewing machine in good working order
- Thread to match fabric
- water-soluble pen or heat-erasing pen
- Quilting ruler
- Rotary cutter
- pins/clips, and general sewing tools such as small scissors, stilleto, and seam ripper
