The picot gauge has a hole at one end to attach to a necklace or bracelet while tatting. No more searching for a dropped gauge! The steps are in quarter-inch increments rather that metric measure but that hardly matters; it is usually a consistent-sized picot you want for your tatting. There are a series of holes along one edge for sizing your tatting needles and that gauge is accurately marked, as well. As a bonus, the flexible plastic packaging is also stepped and, with a sharp knife, can be precision-cut to allow a second (perhaps travelling?) gauge.
